New year of learning for many in Washburn

By Michael Johnson, Editor

Washburn School opened its doors to the 2010-2011 school year on Monday with some new additions to administration, teaching staff as well as the student body. The new elementary principal Trevor Sinclair didn’t have to prepare a lesson for his fourth grade class this year. It seemed a bit strange after doing just that for the past eight years as an elementary teacher. He’s served as a first, second and third grade teacher in Rolla, before coming to teach fourth grade in Washburn for another four years. The switch to principal wasn’t exactly expected coming from a family of teachers. His mother, also a teacher, now considers him one of "them." "It’s something I’ve always just gravitated towards," Sinclair said. At 31-years-old, he’s younger than most of the teachers and he laughs at the fact that he’s still carded when he buys lottery tickets. But he said he’s as ready as he can be.
