After months of deliberation, Washburn’s new non-profit community group has chosen a name for itself.
The Washburn Area Improvement Association, or WAIA for short, selected its name during its January meeting. The group, formally known as Washburn Life, chose its new name after conducting an online survey to get suggestions from the public. WAIA was one of the most popular suggestions, along with the Washburn Area Chamber and Washburn Development Group.
“The ‘legal’ name through the state is Washburn Life which we do plan to use on certain advertising items, but we will use the group name and operate as Washburn Area Improvement Association as we thought it was more recognizable,” WAIA President Tony Thoreson said.
The group, which will eventually replace the Washburn Civic Club and Washburn Area Economic Development Association, aims to serve as a combined civic and economic development group for Washburn.
