Washburn’s Marvin Neumiller just likes to help out the McLean County Fair Board. He doesn’t do it for any accolades.
The volunteer, however, was recently named the state’s Fair Person of the Year, at the recent Dakota Fairs and Events Convention held in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
Neumiller was originally nominated by the McLean County Fair board, then advanced as District 7’s nominee before being named the overall winner.
He and his wife, Kathy, have been coming to the McLean County Fair every year since 1977, noted fair board member Diane Schell.
"They’ve only missed one fair, and that was the year they were building their house," she said.
Kathy is a McLean County Fair board member, which is also a volunteer position, and Marvin says he just chips in where he can.
