After eight hours of pursuit all across McLean County, the driver of a stolen vehicle was apprehended in a cornfield northwest of Wilton.
Just before 2 p.m. on Aug. 31, the McLean County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a speeding vehicle, described as a red Chevrolet Cobalt, that was traveling north on U.S. Highway 83 near Wilton.
Lieutenant Rick Richard clocked the vehicle about three miles south of Washburn going 86 miles per hour in the 70 mile per hour zone. But after trying to stop the vehicle, Richard said he knew it wasn’t going to end that quickly.
“As soon as I tried to pull him over, I could tell he wasn’t going to stop,” Richard said.
The vehicle then fled north through Washburn, then turned onto N.D. 200A, heading north, and then east toward Turtle Lake. The suspect vehicle then turned south onto 16 Avenue Northwest to a McClusky Canal access road, before heading south down to North Dakota Highway 41, where spike strips had been deployed.
