McLean County schools are largely holding steady when it comes to student enrollment, with minor increases and decreases in K-12 numbers between spring and fall terms.
While Garrison's overall enrollment comes in at 411 students this year – the same as last year – Superintendent Nick Klemisch said that because of the intricacies in the state funding formula, the school district can anticipate more state funding.
Most of this money won't be available until next year, but Klemisch said that the dollars will help the district as it focuses on much needed building renovations.
While the overall number has stayed steady, Klemisch said the demographics have changed slightly due to a smaller-than-average graduating class and larger-than-average kindergarten class.
Klemisch said the district has been on an upward trend the past few years as families from surrounding communities have chosen to move to Garrison or take advantage of open enrollment. The open enrollment numbers, he said, have stayed steady this year.
