McLean County renews police contract for Washburn

Commissioners approached to take on more police coverage in future years

M c L e a n C o u n t y Commissioners approved a policing contract to provide 7,103.96 hours of dedicated law enforcement time to the
city of Washburn in 2023. The total contract will cost the city of Washburn $184,456.08 for the fiscal year, and will run from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2023. In the preliminary budget approved earlier this month, Washburn commissioners did have this amount budget in their Public Safety – 4200 fund. Currently, the policing contract between the county and city of Washburn agrees the county will provide dedicated law enforcement service to the city at the rate of $174,015 for the year. This is about a 6 percent increase year over year.
There was a 4 percent increase from 2021 to 2022. County contracts During a meeting held the morning of Aug. 16, McLean County commissioners also approved a police contract for the city of Max in the amount of $32,226.24 to provide 1,231.15 hours of dedicated
law enforcement service to the city. The city of Max is currently paying $30,402.12 during their 2022 fiscal year for this service.
Overall, the county is projected to contract with 11 McLean County towns and cities during the 2023 fiscal year, totally in about
$689,027.64 in 2023.
