McLean County courthouse guests will be greeted by a new piece of safety equipment in the near future, after the Emergency Management department received a grant to fund a new metal detector.
Director of Disaster Emergency Services Noelle Kroll approached McLean County Commissioners Tuesday morning to inform them of a Homeland Security Grant approved for the department.
The $27,900 grant will be split between two security endeavors. The first is a new metal detector for the courthouse, coming in at $12,995.
“This metal detector actually detects cell phones,” Kroll said.
Kroll explainedd that the detector is portable and can be taken to the jail to be used to search inmate cells.
