Where is Washburn now, and where do locals want to see it go?
Those were the questions being answered Tuesday during a meeting between local leaders, youth and members of the state Main Street Initiative.
“What would you like Washburn to be?” Holly Holt, senior manager of strategic initiatives for the N.D. Commerce Department asked a group of about 35 at RDO on Tuesday.
Holt and several other members of Governor Burgum’s Main Street Initiative team led the group in a discussion over Washburn’s strengths and weaknesses.
Holt’s team addressed one of the three pillars of the initiative -- the twenty-first century workforce.
“For the first time in decades, there’s a labor shortage in North Dakota,” Jase Beehler said. “We aren’t producing enough high school students to fill openings.”
