Local Tae Kwon Do tournament will bring about 100 participants

Washburn High School will be packed with people from all over the state this weekend as the school will be the site for the Central Plains Invitational Tae Kwon Do Festival.
This will be the first time McLean County has hosted the tournament since the early 2000s, drawing in anywhere from 90 to 120 participants.
“I am excited to get our local schools recognized by hosting the tournament,” said Master Ken Sorenson of the Washburn Tae Kwon Do.  The local schools represented in the event set to take place Jan. 18 is Washburn, Wilton, Wing, Hazen/Beulah and Bismarck.
However, participants from all over the state have been invited to this tournament, which is sponsored by the Greenquist Academy Tae Kwon Do – Hapkido – Kumdo Association.
They will be in featured martial arts competitions that include patterns, weapon patterns, board breaking and sparring.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with a referee seminar from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., a black belt meeting from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and opening ceremonies beginning at 11 a.m. The tournament itself is set to start at 11:15 a.m.
