A former North Dakota First Lady celebrated her 100th birthday this weekend in Washburn.
Surrounded by 150 family members and a portrait of her and her late husband, Grace Link spent Saturday posing for photos, bonding with family and reminiscing over the last century. The former North Dakota First Lady turns 100 next month, and enjoyed an event at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Washburn this weekend in honor of her big day.
Grace, who was married to North Dakota’s 27th Governor Art Link, enjoyed family time and a picnic Saturday sponsored by the Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation. Her husband Art Link, who served as governor from 1973 to 1981, died in 2010 at the age of 96.
Grace celebrated the occasion Saturday with five generations of relatives, ranging from less than a year old to retirement age. She also enjoyed a painting done of her and her late husband, which was based on a picture taken during their early years of marriage.
Grace will turn 100 on Sept. 13 next month, one century after her birth in 1918.
