It’s tee time! Painted Woods Golf Course now has a pro

By Michael Johnson, Editor

It’s been a long winter and one way to start the spring off right is with a nice round of golf. Painted Wood Golf Course is expected to open this week and with the new season comes a new golf manager by the name of Jeremy Zarr. Don’t let the Vikings cap fool you. When it comes down to it, Zarr is all about golf. The 31-year-old golf pro was born and raised in Minot where he was an assistant golf pro at Souris Valley Golf Course, an 18-hole course, and at Jack Hoeven Wee Links, where he taught youth life lessons and golf strategies. Though he and his wife, Amber and 2½-year-old daughter, Jaelynn are still living in Minot, Jeremy will be at the Painted Woods course full-time. And for the first time in years the course will have a professional who can give golf lessons. He took his first drive through the course last week in the rain. Conditions were not ideal considering Zarr hoped to have the course open within a week. But many golfers will remember that last year the course was flooded at this time and it didn’t open until the beginning of May. It’s on the green grass of the golf course that Zarr comes to life. Even though temps were near freezing, the slightly green grass brought a glimmer of joy to his smile. According to Nathan Grubb, vice president of the golf course board, the reason a full-time golf course manager was needed was because of continued growth at the course.
