Intake funding options explored

Ten percent of the cost of the possible new intake could be covered by McLean-Sheridan Rural Water District, commissioners said Monday, as they looked further into a potential partnership.
Washburn commissioners recently selected a site for a potential new water intake, which would affect the McLean-Sheridan District. Commissioner Keith Jacobson said during Monday’s Washburn City Commission meeting that he met with McLean-Sheridan Rural Water representatives last week to discuss possible collaboration.
“They use 10 percent of water, so they’d would be good with at least 10 percent of upfront cost,” Jacobson said.
According to its website, the McLean-Sheridan Rural Water District primarily supplies water to Turtle Lake, McClusky and Coleharbor, but also to around 150 rural Washburn users. Because of this agreement, McLean Sheridan agreed to pay an “appropriate, proportional” charge for capital improvement related to Washburn’s water intake and associated facilities.
