Groups take next step

Over the course of the next year, two of Washburn’s membership organizations will dissolve, with a new joint entity set to replace them.
Washburn Area Economic Development Association and Civic Club members voted this week in favor of putting an end to the individual organizations and creating a new combined organization.
A unanimous vote at WAEDA’s annual meeting Monday night showed 11 voting members in favor of the change. The day after, 14 out of 18 ballots cast at August’s Civic Club meeting also supported the new entity being formed.
In order to create the new organization, which will be a 501c3, Washburn’s Homerule Charter will need to be amended. The Charter currently dictates that two representatives of Civic Club will serve on the city’s Sales Tax and Use committee, so that board will also be affected.
