General election is Tuesday

The General Election is only a few days away, but many McLean County voters have already cast their ballot. According to county officials, 47 percent, 2,921 of the county’s 6,317 active voters, have requested Vote-by-Mail ballots. Of the 2,921 ballots sent, 1,654, or 43 percent, have been returned. In the last presidential election, 2008, 4,781 county residents voted. In 2010, a non-residential General Election, 3,984 residents voted. County officials said because of so many highly contested races, they expect the figure to be close to 5,000. It was also expected that a number of ballots would be via the Vote-by-Mail method. Auditor Les Korgel thinks there are several reasons why. “First, we had about 1,800 voters in the Primary Election request ballots for the General Election. Those ballots were mailed out the first day we could mail them,” Korgel said.
