Fundraiser totals $5,000 for officers
Every employee at the McLean County Sheriff’s Department will take home approximately $150 in local dollars after a successful fundraiser last month.
Organizers of the “Fund the Police” fundraiser for local authorities presented $5,040 in Washburn Bucks to the sheriff’s department on Friday.
The Washburn Bucks will be distributed to all department employees, with roughly $150 in bucks going to each staff member. The Washburn Bucks can be spent at local businesses and have a 1 to 1 cash value.
The money was raised throughout the month of July, as fundraiser organizers asked the public to show their support for local law enforcement. The call was answered as donations poured into an account set up at Farmers Security Bank in Washburn.
One of the fundraiser organizers, Kayla Buckley, said it was evident that the community supports their law enforcement officers and that she was happy to be able to provide the department some added support.
