Fun under the big top

Some banquets take several days or even a week to plan and organize. When attending a celebration, it is always apparent just how much work has gone into the preparations. On Saturday for the annual Dollars for Scholars banquet, guests of all ages could instantly see just how much work went into creating such a flawless and unique gathering. Guests walked into the transformed Memorial Building and entered through a large white fabric doorway. The red top and fluid fabric appropriately depicted the noticeable circus big top. The long tables were arranged in the customary square shapes and the tabletops were decorated in the perfect circus theme. Popcorn bags were filled with the evening’s details including organizers and volunteer names. Fresh circus peanuts covered the tables in small piles and a small chocolate molded in the shape of an elephant lay wrapped in a circus envelope. The walls were lined with large circus artwork and every detail, including the dressing room themed bathrooms had been created to perfection. The evening started off with an hour for hors d’oeuvres including all of the circus favorites like fresh buttery popcorn, cotton candy, pigs in the blanket, caramel corn and small finger sandwiches. The large elephant, zebra, giraffe and tightrope walking figures surrounded the dining area. The Washburn Dance Team took to the floor during the first hour to offer some exciting entertainment for the guests. All of the students and families of students that received a scholarship from Dollars for Scholars were asked to stand and be recognized. The impressive number of people who had benefited from this program in the past received a loud cheer of appreciation from the guests.
