Freeman heads to Miss High School America

By Michael Johnson, Editor

For several years, Megan Freeman of Washburn has been involved in pageantry in North Dakota. She started out by just answering a mailing she received and grew to enjoy her involvement in the confidence-boosting show. In her last pageant in July of 2012, Freeman came in less than one point behind the winner of Miss High School North Dakota. Being runner up was great but taking the title would have been better. By a sudden change of plans, Megan, a senior at Washburn High School, has moved into the top spot and is able to represent North Dakota at the Miss High School America pageant in Orlando, Fla. The pageant winner decided to put her efforts into a rodeo pageant at the last minute, which gave Freeman about five weeks to prepare for national competition. “I don’t have much time,” Megan said. Her time is strapped further by the fact that she works multiple jobs around Washburn including Cenex and the Little Prints Daycare. She plans to make time for this exciting opportunity. She was pleasantly surprised to find out she won. “I was nervous and in shock,” Megan said.
