In an effort to give back to the community, $3,000 of the proceeds from this year’s Fred Five 5K were donated to the Washburn Ambulance Endowment.
Stacy Boeshans, founder of the annual 5K fundraiser, presented a check Monday evening to Squad Leader Mark Lelm of the Washburn Ambulance.
“Although it was me who got to hand over the check, the money was never from me,” Boeshans said. “That check is a donation from all the Fred Five race sponsors, race participants, and folks who made donations. It is really a check from the community of Washburn.”
Boeshans said the race raised about $8,000 dollars this year from individuals and businesses alike. This year, instead of donating all of the proceeds to research on Neonatal Hemochromatosis, Boeshans wanted to give back.
