Fourth grade history buffs came out to play

Many North Dakota residents might like to think they know their history, but area fourth graders had to prove it last Friday at the third annual Middle Misouri History Bee. The event was at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center in Washburn, and teams of four fourth graders came from area schools including six teams from Garrison, three from Apple Creek, one from Wing, one from Washburn and one from Turtle Lake. Teams were given the question and then given 30 seconds to discuss the question and form an answer. It came down to four teams in the finals including Garrison 1, Garrison 2, Turtle Lake and Apple Creek. At first, it appeared it may be a stalemate when all teams were having trouble answering the questions, but then everyone started scoring. Turtle Lake ended up winning it all and taking home the Middle Missouri History Bee first-place plaque. Turtle Lake made it to the finals every year of the bee and finally came out on top.
