The Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation celebrated another year with its annual meeting dinner on Oct. 19, which featured an art auction and a keynote address from Governor Jack Dalrymple.
"He (Dalrymple) did a wonderful job of praising the foundation for our work the past 20 years and for my personal commitment," said David Borlaug, president of the Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation, of the governor’s address. "It was very gratifying."
Nearly 250 people were in attendance to observe the foundation’s twentieth year of operation with a dinner at the Bismarck Best Western Ramkota and an auction of art from a native North Dakotan.
Minot artist Walter Piehl provided two paintings for the auction, each selling for $5,000, with proceeds going to the Alvera Bergquist Art Acquisition Fund. One buyer turned his painting back in to be sold once again for $5,000.
"We had a challenge match grant from a donor who added $5,000 to the total, bringing our grand total to $20,000," Borlaug said.
