Feeding the hungry

When the Wilton Food Pantry opened in October of 2013, the volunteers behind the effort had no idea what they were in for.
“When we first started, we thought maybe 12 families a month,” Pastor Paul Schauer said. “It’s double that and sometimes triple that. We really underestimated the need.”
In 2018 alone, the pantry gave out just over 25,000 pounds of food, or roughly 9,000 meals.
Schauer, who works with a group of volunteers to keep the pantry running smoothly, said he’s been blown away by the amount of traffic at the food pantry.
“New people come each month,” Schauer said.
