Farewell to a Hometown Hero

Clint Hill, the secret service agent who jumped onto President John F. Kennedy’s car during the Dallas attack and stopped Jacqueline Kennedy from falling, died Feb. 1 at his home in Belvedere, California. He was 93.
Hill, who grew up in Washburn, is remembered for his brave actions on that fateful day in 1963.
After graduating from Washburn High School in 1950, Hill attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where he earned history and physical education degrees. Following his service in Army counterintelligence, he joined the secret service in 1958 at its Denver office. Hill’s bravery was well-known, but he struggled with guilt over his inability to save President Kennedy’s life.
