Fair focuses on tradition this year

The 59th annual McLean County Fair will get underway this Friday with the county’s 4-H and FFA members vying for top honors in their respective shows, and the rest of the folks from around the county coming to take in a wide variety of entertainment over the weekend.
Annual favorites, including the petting zoo, coin hunt, kiddy tractor pull, stock car and Enduro races, ranch rodeo and free pig roast, sponsored by the McLean County Fair, will be joined by some events that are already on their way to becoming family favorites, and others that are bound to be after their first appearance at the fair.
"We’re excited and we’re pretty much ready to go," said McLean County Fair President Diane Schell.
Recently added to the regular line-up, the Ree Stompers of White Shield have proven to be a popular attraction, as members of the group perform a variety of Native American dances.
"People really enjoy watching the traditional Native American dances, and joining in," said Schell.
The Ree Stompers are set to take the stage Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m.
