Soups and sandwiches will be available to the public at the “Drive Up for Dinner” fundraising event scheduled from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15 at the Washburn Area Ambulance Service, as donations will be earmarked for the renovation of the Washburn Swimming Pool.
The neighborhood pool — located at 210 Ninth Street adjacent to Poolside Park — is currently in need of upgrades, particularly to its “patchwork” water-pumping system, according to Park Board members Mark Lelm and Judy Beaudry.
Lelm explained that the town pool’s filtration mechanism isn’t meeting state standards in terms of how frequently the water is turned in order to remove residual dirt, debris and bacteria. In order to fund the installation of a new system, the Park Board must match a $7,500 grant from Twice Blessed with $7,500 of their own.
