County tackling influx of meth

Local detectives are working around the clock to put a dent in the growing meth problem, though they caution that the problem likely won’t go away anytime soon.
One suspect led right to another in a string of nine drug busts throughout the county in the last couple of weeks. McLean County detectives have now confiscated approximately seven ounces of meth from suspects who were apparently bringing the drugs into the county to sell.
After using a suspect’s phone to set up a meeting and drug deal with Heidi Wiard, detectives Aaron Matties and Justin Krohmer pulled over Wiard’s vehicle in Wilton. According to text messages Wiard had sent detectives, she would have 2.5 grams of methamphetamine with her to sell.
Wiard initially said she had lied about having the drugs, but 2.5 grams of meth and a half gram of marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia, was found on her person and inside her home.
“When we pulled her over, there were also three children in the car - a 6-year-old, 3-year-old and 9-month-old,” Matties said.
Wiard was charged with possession with intent to distribute, and Amber Rauser, who was also in the vehicle, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
