County OKs projects, equipment

The McLean County Commission pushed forward two different projects and a couple of equipment purchases and sales at its meeting Tuesday morning.

The three-person commission passed a motion to perform micro-surfacing on County Road 33 and also accepted a $605,785.80 bid from Gladen Construction and awarded the company the project five miles east of Washburn.

The commission also approved the purchase of a new Diamond Disc mower for the highway department, using funds that were intended for new trucks. After Highway Department Superintendent Jim Grey and Commissioner Doug Krebsbach inspected some trucks recently, they decided to put the money elsewhere.

The trucks didn’t have functioning air conditioning or treaded tires and had sand and dirt coating the engine compartment.

"You’re looking at roughly $14,000 to $15,000 to tune them up to what we need," County Auditor Leslie Korgel said.

"Not one of them would start," Krebsbach said of the trucks. "It was ridiculous … I think we should pass on them."
