County fair starts Friday

Red, White and Blue, this Fair’s For You is the theme of this year’s McLean County, and 4-H and FFA youth, as well as open class competitors, will be vying for red, white or blue ribbons, with the most accomplished competitors earning some fabulous pink and purple rosette Reserved and Grand Champion ribbons that they’ll treasure for years to come.
The 62nd annual McLean County Fair will be up and running this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, starting with the 4-H and FFA Achievement Day Thursday. Things start officially at 8:30 a.m. with registration for the open class, home ec., the quilt show and taxidermy show exhibits, and the judging of the 4-H static exhibits starts at 9:30 a.m., all at the fairgrounds in Underwood.
Entertainment and activities through the day include three magic shows (Kids, Extreme and Magic Maniac), a banana derby and the kids coin hunt – just to name a few of the afternoon activities, and the a dance party under the tent caps the day’s events, running from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Saturday, Friends and Family Day, starts bright and early at 7:30 a.m. with registration for the 5K run/walk race, with the start at 8:30 a.m.
The annual fair parade will bring folks to downtown Underwood to take in the annual spectacle starting at noon, while the FFA livestock show and craft and vendor show also get underway at the fairgrounds.
Magic and the banana derby are also on tap for Saturday, as is the Rocky Top Petting Zoo and kid and adult redneck relay races.
