City buying old lumber yard
By Michael Johnson, Editor
Cost to buy old abandoned lumber yard – $20,000. Cost to burn to the ground by local fire departments – a package of marshmallows and weenies. Economic boost to city once new business buys the property – priceless. The city commissioners approved the purchase of the old lumber yard for $20,000 during their last regular commission meeting. The purchase agreement is moving forward and they should own the building within 30 days, according to deputy auditor Joan Zimmerman. Board president Duane Bauer stated that the plan upon buying the building would be to get rid of it and sell the property in order to allow a new commercial property to be built there. Commissioner Derek Laning described it as a golden opportunity to get property that commercial buyers have been begging for.
