The Washburn City Commission awarded the bid, but did not sign the contract, for a Main Avenue street repair set to begin this summer.
Commissioners received three bids for the Main Avenue street repair project, and opened the bids on May 31. Wagner Construction bid the project at $406,084. Unlimited Excavating bid the work at $367,703. Weisz and Sons submitted the low bid of $224,305.
Eric Lothspeich of AE2S Engineers recommended awarding the project to Weisz and Sons, adding that the bid was far lower than the other two.
“I didn’t expect them to be that high,” Lothspeich said. “Glad we got one reasonable one.”
Commissioner Kollin Syverson said he was concerned about signing a contract before funding for the project was secured. Lothspeich recommended sending a Notice of Award to Weisz and Sons, with a contract to follow.
