Two separate requests for Washburn Sales Tax funds were approved Monday by the city commission, with money going to the Washburn Senior Center and the Memorial Building.
The Washburn Sales Tax and Use committee recommended approval on both of its agenda items Monday evening, pushing through money for two Main Avenue entities.
First on the committee agenda was the Washburn Senior Center, which requested $2,000 per year for five years to cover insurance and utility expenses. Annual expenses are around $1,800 per year currently, but a representative said that number is expected to go up.
The Sales Tax and Use committee members said they would like to start with a two-year agreement and have the senior center come back again after that. The committee approved a motion to give the center $2,000 per year for two years.
