Centennial Farms remembered at Interpretive Center

The new North Dakota Centennial Farms interactive display at the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center was unveiled last Friday with a host of farm and energy representatives on site to see the moment take place. The display offers a look at the centennial farms in the state and tells the story of those that have kept agriculture at center stage for over 100 years. The centennial farms displays show more than just the centennial farms in the state. It walks the viewer through the historical significance of agriculture in North Dakota and the world. “It all started with Jefferson,” said David Borlaug, President of the Lewis & Clark Fort Mandan Foundation. He explained how Jefferson talked about farmers as “God's chosen people.” The importance of the early discoveries of farming in America can still be traced to today's grains that feed the world. Of those present were North Dakota Ag commissioner Doug Goehring, representatives of Touchstone Energy Partners including Mike Eggl, Basin Electric Power Cooperative; Kevin Fee, Minnkota Power Cooperative and Kent Brick, North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives and Bob Kuylen, North Dakota Farmers Union vice-president.
