Buchmann gets nomination

A Washburn man has secured a spot on the ballot in this year’s election, earning one party’s nomination for the North Dakota Public Service Commission during the recent convention.
Casey Buchmann earned a stamp of approval from the Democratic-NPL during the party’s state convention March 16 and 17 in Bismarck. Buchmann, a union iron worker from Washburn, will by campaigning to finish out the final two years of a six-year term on the PSC. Republican Brian Kroshus, who was appointed to fill the vacancy in 2017, will also seek voter approval to complete the last leg of the term.
Buchmann, who previously sought a spot in the state House in 2012 and 2016, said he doesn’t want people to think of him as a democrat.
“I am not a democrat. I am non-partisan,” Buchmann told the Leader-News this week.
Buchmann said, if elected, he would like to see more regulation of pipelines within the state, which he said is too lenient with the oil industry.
“The PSC doesn’t know how to say no to oil,” Buchmann said.
