Making sure others stay well has been a priority of Sandy Birst for the past 34 years. Now she hopes to be the one staying well in order to keep up with all the fun of retirement. Birst, the McLean County First District Health nurse, recently announced to county commissioners that she would be retiring with a last official day of July 11. Birst is employed through the end of July. “It has been a privilege to be the public nurse,” Birst said. She noted that the cooperation with the schools has been excellent. “Each of the community’s has something special,” Birst said. She also took a moment to thank the commissioners and auditor’s office for listening to the requests over the years. “I am so proud of this facility,” Birst said. “Public health has never had such a nice facility.”
