Assessment committee to begin plan for street project
By Michael Johnson, Editor
The work to fix streets in Washburn is moving forward while the ice covers up much of the damage throughout town. Design engineer Jasper Klein of Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services attended the last regular meeting of the Washburn City Commission to inform the board of a time line for work to begin. With the appointment of Sue Winter to the special assessment committee that group will be able to begin meeting to decide how the special assessment districts will be divided through town. Klein said he plans to have preliminary engineering and plans of the districts at the next commission meeting in February. If that goes as planned there would be a protest period for 30 days, also likely starting in February. Following the protest period, the project will go out for bids. Klein than suggested the bids could be awarded by mid April. Commissioner Brent Barnick asked that there be an estimate available at the start of the protest period so that residents can determine how much they might have to pay. Knowing that would help them give a proper protest, Barnick rationed.
