Adam Thomas, Washburn Water Treatment Plant operator, recently received an "Operator of the Year" award at the 86th Annual North Dakota Water and Pollution Control Conference (NDWPCC).
Of receiving the award, Thomas said, "It was surprising, to be honest. All the people I’ve seen get this award in the past have been much older than myself and have been in the business a lot longer. So it was pretty humbling to be selected."
The North Dakota Department of Health, in an effort to encourage proper operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems, instituted an annual operator awards program in 1981 during their annual conference.
One hundred and eighty-four operators and three military units (the U.S. Army Reserve, the ND Army National Guard and the ND Air National Guard) have been recognized for their outstanding service since its inception.
