The Central McLean Cougars’ quest to represent Region 5 in the 2021 Class B State Tournament came to an end Monday night in Bismarck as the Standing Rock Warriors held off the come-back Cougars to take a 69-59 win.
The Cougars found themselves trailing early in the game, 19-7 after one stanza, as the Warriors’ scrappy defense confounded the Cougars, forcing an early comeback by the Cougars, who were able to cut the margin to one point midway through the third quarter.
The Warriors dominated on the boards on both ends of the court, hauling down repeated offensive boards for put-backs, particularly the second half. Standing Rock’s Braden Renkin hauled down nine offensive boards for the Warriors as Standing Rock held a 44-32 edge in caroms.
