Trojans thump Comets in hoops action

The Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky Trojans staked their claim on the hard court in Underwood last Tuesday as the Comets were thumped by both the girls and boys teams in District 10 action. TL-M-M’s girls outlasted Underwood 48-38 led by a game-high 14 points from Mariah Sellon. Trojan guard Adam Peltier tossed in 22 points to lead the Trojans to a 64-34 drubbing of the Comets. Trojan girls top UHS: Underwood girls coach Toni Cotttingham doesn’t make excuses when her team loses. She just tries to figure out what went wrong and tries not to let it happen again. Against the Trojans, it was a sluggish defense that allowed the Trojans to put up nine more shots than the Comets. Starters Sammi Cottingham and Charley Auck didn’t play because of illness, but neither did TL-M-M’s big gun Jenna Bayless. “The flu and sickness going around the school definitely altered our strategy, but we definitely have enough talent that I believe we should have played a more sound game,” said Cottingham. “I thought we hurt ourselves by being complacent and not allowing ourselves to find the groove that we needed with our inside/outside game. “Give Turtle Lake the credit for taking us out of our groove with whatever they were doing,” she added.
