The visiting Turtle Lake-Mercer Trojans and home-standing Comets battled through an overtime last Tuesday before the Trojans pulled out a 59-52 win on the wings of 33 points from Turtle Lake-Mercer’s Mariah Sellon.
The Trojans are currently in second place in the district standings behind the undefeated Garrison Troopers, while Underwood slipped to one win and three losses in district action.
The Comets, with assistant coach Jared Kautzman at the helm during the absence of head coach Toni Cottingham, held a slim 12-10 margin over the Trojans at the end of one stanza then quickly upped it to 16-10 as Brooke Weisenberger and Krista Blotske each knocked down a field goal.
The Trojans scored the next six points with Taylor Fylling hitting a fifteen- foot shot and Sellon scored on back-to-back drives to tie the game at 16.
The game stayed pretty much even from there until Underwood’s McKenna Wilson put the Comets up 27-24 with a trey just before the end of the quarter.
