TL-M students save 226 lives

Turtle Lake-Mercer students really take their Jump Rope for Heart fundraising, well, to heart, this year raising more than $11,000 for the American Heart Association. In real terms, noted event organizer Heather Kramer, they saved 226 lives this year.
“We don’t put it in terms of money,” said Kramer. “It takes $50 to save a life, so we saved 226 lives this year.”
Last year’s top life savers (money makers) were Carson and Soren Ravnaas, and the two boys were the school’s and state’s top fundraisers, and they both did extremely well this year, raising more than $2000 each, noted Kramer.
“It’s looking like they’ll be the top again this year,” said Kramer, although the final statewide results won’t be tallied for a little while yet.
“They might even be in the top 400 in the nation – probably the top two in the state for this year,” said Kramer.
The boys have a particular special interest in making the Jump Rope For Heart a success, as they and their school mates jump in honor of their five-year-old sister, Sara, who was born with a congenital heart defect.
