The Garrison-Max-Central McLean Titans opened the 2009 campaign against a pair of perennial Legion baseball powerhouses – Surrey and Velva. But Coach Nathan Turck said the games provided the team a good opportunity to cut its teeth and settle into a routine. The region portion of the schedule gets underway in earnest this week. June 1, the Titans fell to the Surrey Blue Sox 16-1 and 10-0. The following night, June 2, the Titans squared off against another out-of-region team, Velva. The game was in Garrison, but the visitors showed no mercy, defeating the Titans 15-5 and 15-7. Tuesday night’s games against Tioga were rescheduled to Friday, June 26 due to inclement weather. Being new to Legion program, Turck observes that the Blue Sox and Velva were tough challenges for the Titans.
