Underwood Head Coach Gary Ballard’s prediction that this past week’s girls hoops games would be tough were spot on, as the Comets lost a pair of games on the hard court to two state-ranked teams, Velva and Linton.
Linton bumped off the Comets Thursday night in Underwood by the score of 47-27, and the Comets fell to Velva Friday night on the Aggies’ home court, falling by the score of 57-27.
“Both of those two teams are really high-caliber teams,” said Ballard. “It’s good to play teams like that.”
The Comets struggled to score in both outings as the state-ranked teams’ defense shut down the Comets’ offense.
Despite the losses, Ballard was positive about the Comets’ effort, and he’s confident looking forward. The more experience his young players get -- there isn’t a senior on the roster – the more confident they’ll become.
“I think the kids will be fine,” he said. “Rebounding is always a concern – we need to get better on the boards rebounding, and the big thing is turnovers and getting more people involved offensively.”
