Ruff, relays joining Sellon at state track

Several more Cougar athletes will be making the trip to this week’s state track meet after qualifying at Saturday’s South Central Regional track meet at the Bismarck Bowl. Senior Dylan Ruff earned his qualifying spot by placing second in the triple jump with his leap of 39-10, while the members of the girls’ 800, 1600 and 3200-meter relays also qualified by placing third in their respective races. The state track meet will be held at the Bismarck Community Bowl this Friday and Saturday. Members of the 800-meter relay team that placed third with their time of 1:51.23 are Caitlyn Berg, Chailee Berg, Madison Holm and Mariah Sellon. Holm was joined by Emily Eichhorst, Mackenzie Snyder and Brooklyn Anderson for their third-place finish in the mile relay with a time of 4:26.84. The two-mile team of Caitlyn Berg, Eichhorst, Snyder and McKenna Wilson will also be going to state after their third-place finish at the regional meet with a time of 10:27.33. Jumper Mariah Sellon also qualified in the long jump with her first-place effort of 16-11, an event in which she has previously qualified. “Our girls had an outstanding meet,” commented Cougar coach Lee Weisgarber. “Caitlyn Berg showed great leadership by helping our younger athletes stay focused on the goal.
