Newcomers win walleye derby
By Stu Merry, BHG News Service
Leave it to a pair of rookies to walk away with the top prize in the 2013 North Dakota Governor’s Cup Walleye Tournament. With record numbers of teams fishing in the tournament for the first time, the odds were pretty good a first-time team would finish high. Call it beginner’s luck. Bryce Bethke, 27, Bismarck, and Kasey Power, 26, of Wilton, started strong and finished strong and will receive a $10,000 check for their efforts. Collecting their thoughts after receiving their first place hardware, all the two could say was, “awesome.” Winning North Dakota’s longest running walleye tournament just hadn’t settled in quite yet.
