Netters boast experience, depth

By Suzanne Werre, BHG News Service

Having lost only one senior to graduation, the Underwood Comets volleyball team is counting on its experience working together for the past few years, as well as quite a bit of depth, to advance in the regional tournament this year. Most of the players have had three years together, noted head coach Mary Hefta.  That three years of working together has made the team pretty cohesive as they look toward the 2012 season. And it’s not just the six starters that are working well together, she added. “We’ve got lots of depth,” said Hefta. “I’ve got eight to nine starters, and I can play 10 girls that specialize.” Leading the way on the court for the Comets will be senior starters, setter Sammi Cottingham, libero Kenzie Bertsch, and outside hitter Caitlyn Berg.  Juniors looking to bring their own specialties to the team include returners Abby Landenberger, Anne Hefta, Emma Lee, Brianne Halstead and Taylor Dammann.  Sophomore starter Erin Dammann will also be putting in plenty of time on the court, as will Lindsey Duben and Krista Blotske.
