All it took was a perfect day and the drive to be one of the best relay teams in the state for the Central McLean girls mile relay team to run a personal best time – good enough to place seventh at the state track meet Saturday.
The relay team, made up of Taya Hornberger, Lexie Jo Jacobson, Maggie Eng and Taysha Snyder ran a season-best time of 4:14.12 to place seventh at the North Dakota High School Activities Association’s State Track and Field Meet in Bismarck. The young team, made up of an eighth-grader, a freshman and two juniors, should be back to lead the Cougars on the track again next season.
The 1600-meter relay team was the lone Cougar entrant to place at the state meet, which featured day one’s cold, wind and rain, and a balmy, sunny Saturday fit for state qualifying times and distances.
In team competition, Rugby took the team title with 84.5 points, followed by Thompson with 67.5 and Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich in third with 40. Central McLean tied for 43rd with two points.
