Hornets sting Comets in opener

The Comet boys got took some hard knocks Monday night in their season opener, taking a drubbing at the hands of a visiting Harvey-Wells County by the score of 63-27. Senior Jeremy Wirtz knocked down 19 points to pace the Comets, but the supporting cast of players contributed just eight combined points, while the Hornets had three players in double digits, led by Koby Houchin’s 14. “Jeremy is asked to do a lot, and I thought he handled it pretty well,” commented Underwood coach Steve Cottingham. The Comets trailed 21-7 after the first stanza, struggling to put the ball through the hoop. “(Harvey) shot the ball well, especially early,” said Cottingham. “And we couldn’t find the hole to save our souls that first quarter.”
