The Comet girls hoopsters went from the height of success last Monday in the Surrey win, when senior guard Abby Landenberger surpassed the 1000-point mark in scoring, to their first actual low point of the season, when they suffered their first loss to a visiting Garrison team, 58-44, Friday.
The Comets led at all three breaks, leading by eight points at half-time, but a dismal fourth quarter in which the Troopers outscored the Comets 25-6 led to Underwood dropping the key district game. It moved their record to 9-1.
"Garrison did a nice job of penetrating and kicking the ball out, and we got being over-anxious at times and giving them more easy shots than what we would have liked," said Comet coach Toni Cottingham.
It was a quick turnaround in the fourth quarter when the Troopers cashed in on a couple treys, and the Comets followed up with a couple quick turnovers. The Comets were picked off 19 times in the game compared to Garrison’s 11.
