G-M-CM Titans stumble at state

They fought hard, and staged a valiant comeback that came up short in play at this past week’s State Class B American Legion baseball tournament. The Garrison-Max-Central McLean Titans went 0-2 at the tournament, held in LaMoure. Taking the title was Grafton, defeating Wahpeton 4-1. Grafton eliminated Washburn 12-2 this past Saturday. The other area team, Velva, was dismissed by LaMoure 4-1 also Saturday. The Titans opened the tournament Aug. 1 against host LaMoure, falling 3-0. All of LaMoure’s runs came in the fourth inning off starter Ramsey Crawford. Tanner Carlson and his teammates for LaMoure were just too much for the Titans in opening round action. Carlson fashioned a five-hitter, fanning nine G-M-CM batters. Ramsey Crawford also pitched a stellar game for the Titans, scattering eight hits in the loss. His only hiccup came in the fourth when he gave up a couple hits and pair of walks, capped by a squeeze play that enabled LaMoure to plate three in the inning. With Carlson in control, it was all host LaMoure needed to pick up the “W.” Brookes Reinholt was 2-3 to lead the Titans. G-M-CM left six men on base, while LaMoure stranded seven.
