Central McLean’s girls 800, 1600 and 3200-meter relay teams will be competing at the State Track Meet this Friday and Saturday at the Bismarck Bowl, with eighth-grader Maggie Eng also competing individually in the 800 after her third-place finish in Saturday’s regional in Bismarck.
Competing for the Cougar boys will be senior Nicholas Dammen, who had previously qualified in both the shot put and discus, but cemented those qualifying finishes by placing second in both competitions Saturday in Bismarck.
Cougar Coach Lee Weisgarber was pretty happy with the day’s and season’s finish as they head toward state.
"We would have liked to get our 4x100 relay qualified, but are very happy with getting the 4x200 relay, the 4x400 relay and Maggie in the 800," he said.
"It would have been nice to add a few boys to the list but Nick threw well in the shot and discus.
"Overall, we had a lot of personal bests at the meet. You always want to see your best times and distances come tournament time. Our kids stepped up and performed. It was fun to watch," said Weisgarber.
