Eagles hold off come-back Comets

The New Town Eagles were good for just shy of half of their shots from two-point range Saturday night, as the visiting Eagles held off a coming-back Underwood girls hoops team by the score of 59-49, hitting 49 percent of their two-point shots.
The Comets outscored the Eagles 20-9 in the final stanza, but it was too little, too late, as the Eagles had built up a 21-point (50-29) lead by the end of three quarters.
"After coming off the Christmas break, the girls had a slow start," commented Underwood Coach Toni Cottingham. "We were able to get a lot of really good looks at the basket, but were unable to convert.
"By the fourth quarter, we were starting to find our rhythm, but by that time, we had dug ourselves a pretty big hole."
Eighth-grader Taysha Snyder provided a spark for the Comets the second half, as they trailed 28-18 going into the third quarter.
Snyder tossed in 10 points and snagged four rebounds the second half, joining sophomore sister MacKenzie Snyder in double digits. Mackenzie scored 17 points and harnessed eight rebounds to pace the Comets both in scoring and on the boards.
